Chemistry
(required for graduation- 1st Semester 2014)
A recent Legislative decision was made mandating all students graduating after 2014 pass a full year course of Chemistry or Physics. This was typically something done by college bound students, but now it needs to be done by all students as a graduation requirement. This will be a challenging course and will require some time outside of normal class to successfully complete in a semester even with our longer class period. Having said that, learning chemistry has the potential to be a great experience!
Our main curriculum will be a computer-based program called Gradpoint. There are many advantages to using this program for independent learners, however to be successful in chemistry, most students will need quite a bit of self discipline, focus, and guidance...that's where I come in. I will try to keep students together at times and will let you work independently at other times. I also plan on trying to supplement the normal curriculum with some more relevant chemistry involving more common chemicals and reactions: vinegar, bleach, ammonia, metals, welding, cleaners, foods, battery acid, etc.
